Game #4 - Losing Team -- Hunter Zip (0) Davis 23

Oh my!  What a game!  This week's football game was cursed from the beginning -- Parker lost in the sophomore class election; Marie Sharapova lost at the US Open; and . . . Hunter could not get their offense or defense going.  The kids appeared to me to have flat energy -- basically they didn't have the excitement and momentum like other weeks.  The game was filled with penalties, interceptions, and lost opportunities.  Had we not thrown interceptions and capitalized on a few Davis penalties the outcome may have been different.  I really think Davis is overrated -- not a top 5 team in the state.  Our kids actually handled them pretty well but not without some injuries -- knees, ankles, tail bones, pride, and more . . . .

This week Hunter has a bye.  That means a time to heal injuries and take time to sort through the offense and the defense to put a good game plan together for the next game -- Friday, September 21 @ West High.

On a positive note, the weather was absolutely beautiful -- perfect football game watching weather.  Willie had a strong cheering section and the studentbody showed up dressed for a "blackout" game.  It was fun!

Game #5 - Winning Team - Hunter 41 West 3

What a great night for a football game!  Hunter HS wolverines played in the middle of Salt Lake City at Salt Lake High School West (now some 122 years as a public high school).  The field and stands were decorated in black and red, but Hunter pretty much ruined the West High Homecoming 2012! (Follow the link for details in a Deseret News article.)

Our Hunter football team came onto the field in control of the game from the opening kickoff - scoring in the first 3 minutes!  It was a great game and I am so proud of the kids for keeping their behavior in check and playing a well orchestrated game (only two penalties).

On a sad note -- Hunter's #1 running back/fullback, Hyrum Purcell, went out of the game with a serious knee injury.  Hopefully, he'll be back soon -- he is amazing and the team needs him.

Game #6 - Winning Team - Hunter 34  Granger 14

What a week!  HHS Homecoming and all of the activites made for a very exciting but very demanding and busy week.  The highlight for the people who live in my house was the football game on Friday night and a sweet victory.

(here is an article from the Deseret News with Willie's name in it)

Hunter head coach Scott Henderson said he didn't say anything special at halftime, but he believed much of the first-half issues stemmed from too much emotion.
"We were just kind of not doing the right things," said Henderson. "We kept going the wrong way; running the plays the wrong way. ... This is a big rivalry and the kids were just hyped up, and it took us a while to get calmed down.
"They play with so much emotion; I love this team so much because they play with that emotion, especially against Granger. This is a great rivalry. And Granger played good."

Senior offensive lineman Willie Peterson said the start was a little frustrating, but the team was determined to change the energy of the game.
"We came out with a whole new fire in us in that second half," he said. "We were a different team out there; we felt it."
Henderson was proud of the fight his team showed in every aspect of the game. He acknowledged he's lucky to have the depth he does, especially at running back.
"I'm so blessed to have the depth at running back, the depth at line, and defensively, these kids just love it" Henderson said. "They love to hit and take care of business."
