End of an Era

It is Parent-Teacher Conferences tonight (or at least it was when I started writing this).  I am still depressed about the loss of a certain basketball game yesterday (which is now a few days ago), so I thought I'd post about it.  Hunter lost.  They had an excellent season, went undefeated in region,  and then just lost.  It was sad.  They just couldn't get it going.  Willie, who normally gets 100 rebounds a game, kept struggling to get position and was too far under the basket.  Noah, who normally scores 100 points a game, couldn't hit the broad side of a really wide barn.  Willie had to play against this kid with a mullet most of the game.  It was gross.

Superstitiously, I blame myself for wearing a Hunter shirt I felt bad vibes about when putting it on that morning.  Superstitiously, I also blame the one coach who dyed his hair and didn't even look like his former self, and for all the coaches for wearing ties.  They've never done that.

Officially, I blame the officials for bad calls.  The fouls were against Hunter always.  Syracuse went 20-something for 30-something from the foul line while Hunter went less than 10 for less than 10 from the foul line.  That could make or break the game right there.  Officially, I also blame the officials for calling 5 fouls on Willie.  He doesn't foul out very often.  He got 2 legitimate fouls early on in the game and then a 3rd a while later.  His last 2, however, were just crazy!  Foul #4 occurred when he and mullet boy tripped over each other running down the court.  The rest of both teams were already way down the court and they were far from the ball.  It should have been a no-call, but they called a foul.  Foul #5 was the Oscar award winning foul when mullet boy dramatically flung himself to the ground, 3 feet away from Willie, but they called the foul anyway.

Oh well.

The highlight of the game came from Willie getting a bucket and one to bring the Wolverines to within 3 points in the start of the 4th quarter, but that was as good as it got.

Here is an excerpt from a Deseret News Article:

"The Wolverines pulled within three points at one point, thanks to some great plays by forward Willie Petersen, who finished with seven points, six rebounds and a blocked shot. But it was Hunter'sBrandon Davies who picked up the slack when the Syracuse defense focused its attention on guard Noah Togiai."

You win some.  You lose some.  And some just get overshadowed by greasy mulletts.

Here's to a fun and exciting roller coaster of 3 years of Hunter basketball!!

The End.
