Senior Night - Region Championship

Game #9 - Region 2 Champs-Hunter 35 Viewmont 0

**The following follow-up brought to you once again by mama Judy **

Well, they did it!  The HHS Wolverines went undefeated in Region 2 play and are now ready for the 5A State Playoffs.  The boys (and coaches) have had a great season and I don't think they have played any game at full potential.  It will be fun to watch them in the playoffs to see what they can do!  The last region game Wednesday, Oct. 17 (35 to 0 over Viewmont) was senior night -- the game when senior players and their parents walk out on the field and get the spotlight for a few minutes.  Well the boys were introduced in jersey number order #1-#88.  Willis is #74 and was second to the last.  Each senior player had a few seconds of their favorite song played and then a few words were stated about each.  My son never ceases to amaze me (and everyone else).  He ran to mid field as his song began to play (Mariah Carey, "Fantasy"), made some weird pose, and then did some goofy dance moves before running through the player "high five, low five" line.  Yes, he is a wild and crazy boy!

It was an exciting night and the players, their families, friends, and others had a great time!  Playoffs begin on Friday, Oct. 25, and Hunter has home field advantage!

NEXT GAME
5A State Playoffs - Round 1
Fremont (2-7) at Hunter (7-2), Friday 10/26, 5 p.m.

My comments:
  • We have lucked out with really good weather this whole season, but Wednesday's game was a bit on the chilly side.
  • My brother is totally weird.  He danced.  Imagine Napoleon Dynamite in full pads.
  • Grandpa came again and lasted until halftime.
  • My mom did a nice "Senior Night Program" to hand out to the spectators.  My mom and the other moms put together a senior night after-game party, too, with food and a dvd.  I'm not sure why football is such a big deal, but it is kind of fun.
  • James and Annie both took their fancy cameras

When Dogs Attack - Update

Several people have asked me about James' hand.  He's ok.  It's getting better.

During the first week after it was operated on, he was very limited as to what he could do at work.  One day his boss just sent him home.  He went for a ride in the mountains.  He ran some errands for me.  He supervised a few visits for work.  He took some time off.

During the first week, he also had a hard time helping with Jack in the mornings.  I had to get Jack dressed and buckled in his car seat at 7 for James to drop him off at Maddie's at 8.  Baby seats are nearly impossible with only one hand.  On the day he had to go back to the doctor I called him to see how his appointment went and then also asked him how his morning was.  Our conversation went something like this:

Me: How did your morning go?
Him:  It was a little rough.
Me: What happened?
Him:  Jack had messy pants.
Me:  Oh dear.  Did you just take him to Maddie's and say sorry that you brought him messy?
Him:  No.  It smelled really bad and I had to change it.
Me:  How did you get him out of his seat?
Him:  Very carefully.  I think he's ok, but I probably shouldn't do that again for a while.
Me:  How did you change his diaper with one hand?
Him:  Plastic wrap.

The appointment went ok.  The doctor said the infection appeared to be clearing up and he did not need to open it again to clean it out.  He said to go 1 more week with the splint on, then 1 more week with no splint, but still wrapped up, then come back in for an appointment.  At the next appointment they will determind if the torn tendon is healing itself or if it will need to be surgically repaired.

During this last week, James has been pretty much back to work and gave up driving the new car (automatic) for his regular car (manual) and he seems to be functioning just fine.  I think it still hurts a little and hopefully he is not overdoing it.

That's the update . . .  until his next appointment.

Brotherly-Sisterly Love

A week or so ago, I took pictures of Jack and Molly lounging around on a Saturday or Sunday morning
(Don't worry about the bandaid.  The big sister just put it there.)

So I put Jack in the Bumbo on the kitchen counter while I was cleaning up dinner the other day.  The doorbell rang and some Cub Scout was selling pies.  While buying a pie, I thought "I probably shouldn't leave Jack on the counter.  He'll fall off."  He didn't, thank goodness, but after I moved him to the floor, he nearly leaned himself out of the Bumbo and very well could have done the same thing on the counter and fallen.  Phew.

Being on the floor welcomed its own set of challenges, though.  The big sister attacked.  She gave him the step stool as his "table" so he could "eat his dinner."  "Num, num, num Jack.  Eat your dinner," as she shoved bottle nipples in his mouth.  Next thing I know she is emptying the dish towel drawer and putting them on his head.  Why?  Who knows.  Sigh.  Sorry, Jack, she's crazy!

Today James brought up the walker from downstairs and put Jack in it.  I think he's a little small for it and his feat were dangling, but he was in heaven and loved the new found position to see the world.  Molly had to join him, of course.  She was sporting her "car" that she made during Transportation Week at school.  As you can see, she painted it herself (but she must have had help attaching the head lights).
