Ode to a duck

We met Mrs. Duck on James' birthday. It was Sunday night, June 28th. She was a bit stressed.

The next day I noticed her eggs. She'd made a nest. I wasn't thrilled to say the least.

She was frightened by the lawnmower, but otherwise nothing phased her.

She made our backyard smell funny and she left a bit of a mess, but we let her be.

On Monday night, I noticed she was a bit squirmy on her nest.

Bright and early Tuesday morning, she had six little duckie babies following her in circles around the yard. I woke James up to take some pictures. They were cute!

Mother duck, you left big duck diarrhea messes all over the yard. No thanks to that, but thanks to James for cleaning it up.

We left the gate open. The duckies left. They came back. They left again. They are gone.

Although he never met you, Willie insisted on naming you. Huey, Duey, Luey, Duckworth, Clarabel, and Quackers. Mother duck's name was Sally.

Goodbye ducks! We part on good terms and we wish you the best of luck. It was nice knowing you as day old infants.

We hope you found water and we hope the ugly white cat without a tale that lives in the dumpster didn't find you.

So long!
