I tried to be a good citizen and go take care of my criminal record today. I reported to the West Valley City Hall after 5 days and before 14 days from the time of the incident. There was not a specific address on the summons, just a generic address for the City Hall. I went to three different doors before I finally made it to the right place. I went through security, walked through a large indoor puddle (the security guys said they had alerted maintenance), and made my way to the court clerk window.
The woman was friendly, although she looked a little perplexed at the form I handed her. "I don't think I've seen one of these before," she said. "Hmmm. It's not in here," she continued. Apparently the police officer who pulled me over has not followed up on his end of the paperwork. It has not been submitted. So, does that mean I'm off the hook. No. The friendly lady who said, "you're welcome to vent at me, but there's not much I can do" told me to call a phone number in another couple of weeks. If the citation has been filed, I can return to take care of the summons.
Yippee for bureaucratic government.
