On Friday at school I decided to support the Senior Talent Show by going down to the auditorium in the morning. I watched 2 1/2 acts and was pretty impressed by one of them. It was a girl and a boy. The boy played the guitar while the girl sang a song. The boy sang some harmonies on chorus parts. I had never heard the song before and quite liked it. The girl had a really strong voice and the boy's guitar playing was pretty good.
Before my students left the assembly and came back to class, I looked up the song and found it. I think the version from the assembly (quaint, quiet, acoustic duet) was actually better than the real version, but I still quite like the song. I had never heard of the artist, but then realized after some quick research that she had one big radio hit, that I'm sure you've all heard.
Here is the song that I liked:
While looking on youtube for this song, I also found this one. I quite like it, also.
I don't think I knew much of a Weezer until my sister had a Weezer-obsessed student at Hunter who she used to talk about. I wouldn't really say that I am a Weezer fan, but I am a Weezer appreciator. Chase, my rockin' 5th grade guitar student first introduced me to this song. He's also introduced me to the world of AC/DC, a world in which I must say I hadn't experienced much before Chase (hopefully I've introduced him to some good stuff, too).
Anyway, if you watch this video closely, did you notice Rivers Cuomo has quite a bald spot? And, do you like the matching sweatsuits?

What I think about the Number 30
*30 is a number. It's less than 40, but more than 20.
*Its multiples are 60, 90, 120, 150, etc.
*Its factors are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, and 30.
*The square root of 30 is irrational.
*30 days ago things in my stomach did not move around and kick me near as much as they do today.
*In around 30 days from now, this being in my stomach will emerge, hopefully happy, healthy, and able to practice other skills besides kicking me in the rib cage.
*In 3o years from now, I'll be 60 and the parent of an almost 30 year old.
*It has taken less than 30 years to earn a bachelor's degree, drive across the country, visit 30 states, buy a house, get married to James, teach school for 7 years, spend 5 years driving to Tooele, visit France (twice) and Switzerland, go to countless basketball games, go to Disneyland a bunch of times, hang out with my grandparents, hang out with my brother, my nephews, of course James, my parents, and my other great family members, take banjo lessons, and . . . do lots of other cool stuff.
*It will take more than 30 years to have a baby girl and see where that takes us, get James graduated with a nursing degree, finish my master's degree, visit the other 20 states, write a book, teach some more, visit Jame's brother in Germany, travel around some other European countries, spend more time with my family, convince my colleagues that calculators are not evil, convince my students that learning is important, own a slightly bigger home with a garage and a yard, be married to my husband for more than 3 years, go to a lot more basketball games, and eat a lot more cheeseburgers.
Happy Birthday to me!!
Thanks for the birthday posts Mom and Annie!

Do you need some help with Biology?
Here are two of my favorite gentleman doing . . . biology. I can help with math, history, english, and I can edit any paper, but biology? I'm at a loss, here. So what can I do? Take a picture of the biologists and post it on the blog while I wait!
(Mom, Dad, and Willie, your computer is WAYYYYY too slow.
Can you do something about it?)

Ultrasound Day #4
Here are some new pictures of our little baby girl. It's a profile. I know it's a little strange, but you can see her lips, nose, and forehead in the center of the picture. The bulge at the left is a leg. The strange growth on her forehead is supposedly a hand. We'll keep our fingers crossed that's what it is.Everything looks good. She wriggles around a lot.
People keep asking us what her name is. Don't you think she should be the first to find out? Are there no surprises anymore? Actually, we haven't really decided on a name for sure. We're going to wait until we meet her.

Spring Break
Welcome to our nursery . . .
. . . in the corner of our bedroom
We're keeping our fingers crossed that our baby is healthy and not early, or anything like that. However, we had some time this week due to my spring break and James having some time off. So, we (although James would argue it was just my idea) decided to do some housework (although James would argue that he did most of it). The carpets are cleaned, everything is dusted, rooms are reorganized, a load went to the DI, and now this. We are ready! (Almost ready - the car seat is in the mail and should be here in the next few days. Diapers, bottles . . . yeah we don't have any of that yet. We do have a few cute outfits, though.)
5 Weeks to Go!
James is finished with his crazy schedule of capstone clinicals at IMC after this weekend. He can hopefully breath a little easier. He still has a couple of regular nursing classes to finish up and is beginning the process of applying for a license and taking the NCLEX (nursing boards). He's also embarking on that really scary uncertainty of looking for an actual nursing job. Keep your fingers crossed. I, on the other hand, am bracing for April since my student teacher is now gone and I actually have to teach 7 classes again instead of just 4. It's been a different experience being a "host teacher." I'm glad it's over, but I also appreciated the fact that I haven't brought home hardly any schoolwork in the last month or so. But alas, here we go again.
