Field of Dreams

I am supposed to be A) doing homework and B) grading some tests. I am sitting at the kitchen table at the computer, but not accomplishing much. In the living room, for noise sake, I turned on the TV and I am listening to "Field of Dreams." It's a good movie and I like it!

Tired Haley

So Haley has caught me sleeping numberous times. So I thought that I would show you what a pregnant teacher / student does 10 minutes after she arrives home. Like the post below says things in the Binggeli home are busy. It seems that we take a nap at almost every moment of free time. This picture goes to show that we are catching up before the big day. Wish us luck, because we are going to need it. The words "Wait until you have children" are ringing in my ears.

Until the next sleepy moment, take care.

New post

I am blogging again to avoid homework. I am struggling with a class that grades us on weekly True/False quizzes about the readings. I've been doing the readings, but then I do poorly on the quizzes. This week, I tried to read, but just couldn't get through the material, so I decided to take the quiz without reading. The quiz is timed, but still allows a big window to look up answers in the book. I did that. I just got my worse score yet: 50%. Ugh. I guess I'll go back to reading the book again next week. Who gives true/false quizzes in a master's program anyway? Dumb.

In other USU school news, my elective class (mentioned in the last post) is actually kind of cool. Why? It's not related to educational research and I am learning HTML. Here is my new website: haleybinggeli.orgfree.com. It's a work in progress, but I feel quite proud of it at the moment (although I just tried to open it in Explorer and it wouldn't work - try Mozilla).

To update things from a few posts ago:

--> James accepted the National Guard promotion and will be traveling to St. George each month. He is no longer SGT (Sergeant) Binggeli but can now be referred to as SSG (Staff Sergeant) Binggeli, although he would really like to become 2LT (2nd Lieutenant) Binggeli at some point in the nearer than further future. We'll see. He's now in the 213th FSC (Forward Support Company) instead of the 214th FSC. The 214th supported the northern Utah 145th FA (Field Artillery) and the 213th FSC supports the southern Utah 222nd FA (sometimes called the "triple deuce").

--> Baby. She is still cooking, but wriggles around quite a bit. I am finally becoming much less inconspicuous. My students are making comments. Things like:

"Mrs. Binggeli, your shirt is really getting tight. Did you shrink it?"

"Why didn't you tell us?"

"How long have you known?"

"Is that why your student teacher is here?"

"Are you going to name her after me?"

"Mrs. Binggeli, are you pregnant?"

--> House. Our neighbor's house has been broken into for the second time in a couple of months. They have decided to move. I feel really bad for them. I don't quite understand why they've been hit twice, but I am interested to see what they list their house for and how long it takes to sell. The sign went up tonight.

I feel old

So I am really boring, I know. All I have to blog about is basketball, stress, and school. Oh well. (In case you are wondering, Utah basketball is utterly terrible this year, and getting worse each game, I am still stressed, and school is school.)

Yesterday I got an e-mail. It was strange. It was from a girl who is in one of my online USU classes. She recognized my name and thought she'd contact me to see how I was doing in the class because she was struggling. She wondered if I had any suggestions. This class is an undergrad/grad class and I am taking it as an elective for my MEd program.

Given that, though, why would this random person in my class be asking me for help? . . . . because she is a former student of mine.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen. I am now enrolled in higher education courses with people I once taught as 8th graders. I know it's cliche to say, but this really makes me feel old.

Ugly Betty Special Returns

It's halftime in Provo. My stomach is turning. C'mon Utah. What is the deal? 44-30 at the half?

Here is my rundown on the game:

Offense - slow it down, pass the ball, get good shots off. Stop playing the "run-and-chuck" offense. You are 1-8 from the three point line, so maybe you should stop shooting them, especially if only one of you is planning to rebound.

Defense - At least three times, you have totally collapsed and left BYU with a clear runway to the basket. Stop doing that. Get your hands up, move your feet, and cut off the lane.

To give them some credit, BYU is really good this year. They are far outplaying Utah and out-coaching them. In the first half they are 5-6 from 3 point land. Wow! They are not going to miss a shot.

A loss for Utah may have been expected in this match, but at least SHOW UP and START PLAYING!!

In other news, since I'm giving
expert basketball advice . . .

Dad, your Jr. Jazz team needs to do some left hand drills. Have your big guys do some Miken drills or at least run some lay-up lines and insist that they use their lefts on the left side. It could greatly improve your team! Left. Left. Left.
