Happy Anniversary to Us!

Today, March 9th, we have been married a whopping 2 years! Although it snowed today, it was a very pleasant spring day on March 9, 2007. What have we accomplished in a year?

bought a house

added to our house the following - lots of paint, a new dryer, fridge, and dishwasher, a new bathroom, kitchen wall, new countertops, and a furnace

went on a few trips - to the Redwoods, Disneyland, Bear Lake, Park City, Bryce Canyon, Idaho Falls, and Yellowstone

have had several jobs - LDS Hospital, Intermountain Hospital, Tooele High School, Murray High School

James earned his Associate's Degree from SLCC and started his Bachelor's of Nursing program at the U

Elder's Quorum counselor, Elder's Quorum President, Primary Teacher, Primary Counselor

and this last week . . . bought a piano

So in our class today we talked about communitable diseases and food borne illness. We were then shown a video that show the proper way to cough and sneeze. In light of the bug that seems to be going around I thought that I would share.

Students Say the Darndest Things

Conversation of the day:

Student: How long is 25 to life?
Me: Um . . . 25 years . . . or longer.
Student: Dang! I thought it was like 2 years.
Me: Why are you asking?
Student: My cousin just got that.
Me: What did he do?
Student: Attempted murder . . . or maybe murder . . . something like that.

Other thoughts:

I have a student with some very interesting special needs. He's a good kid, but a little wacky . . . ok, maybe a lot wacky. A colleague of mine sees him a few class periods after I do. When he is on one, I usually warn her. Today he was fine in my class, though, so there was nothing to warn about. Here is an e-mail she sent me this afternoon.

"Where was my early warning service today? :)

At this point in class he has undressed himself, twice, and turned his shirt inside out. He also declared to the class that the movie The Forty-Year Old Virgin is his destiny and wailed that, "I am lonely! Oh so very lonely!" He has offered hugs to each and every person to walk into the room (the poor counseling aide was so confused), and sang commercials while we took the vocabulary quiz. Oh boy - one more hour to go. :)"

Ready for Updates on the Week in Review?

• James is feeling better. He finally decided to go to Instacare and did have bronchitis. He's been on an antibiotic and seems to be doing better.
• I still have no idea whether I will have a job or not at Murray High, but I should know this week.
• James may still need to go to Texas, but now he said that it would be 3 months, not 3 years. I can't get a straight answer out of him. All I know is nothing weill change until after May of next year when he graduates.
• Before I can start a Master's program I need to make sure that I would be able to teach SLCC Concurrent Enrollment classes with taking any further mat classes. As soon as I hear back from the SLCC dude, I am still planning to continue that.
• Willie's school basketball season is finally over. We're glad. Hopefully things will be better next year.

What else?

• I stubbed my toe this morning on my scary stairs. I thought, "ouch," but then much later realized that it had been bleeding all over. Oops.
• Today was the "Haley Show" in primary. I did the opening exercises, sharing time, and the music. Phew! I am tired just thinking about it. Luckily Beverly, our secretary, was there with me and kept us all together and running!
• The Utes lost yesterday to BY-poo. That was sucky! Oh well. Better luck next time.
• Friday and Saturday night we went with James' family to the 3A basketball tournament at the E Center. Bear River has a good team this year and they ended up winning the championship. Way to go Bears!

Week in Review

Another week has flown by. Here are a few of the highlights or stresslights:

• James hasn't felt well this week. The almost-nurse in the house hasn't quite diagnosed himself, but is worried he might have bronchitis, the flu, or a terrible chest cold. The non-nurse in the house thinks that if he is sick one more day, he needs to visit the doctor.
• I am a little stressed about my job future. Remember I took at 1-year position at Murray High? Well, the person who I replaced can't quite figure out whether she is going to return or not. She has until March 1st to decide. In the meantime, I have been preparing applications, letters of recommendation, etc. to apply elsewhere. The good news is that I teach math and there is a huge shortage of math teachers. The bad news is that we are in scary economic times with legislative cuts and 1) if I do get to keep my job at Murray, but the budget and dropping enrollment means we have to let a math teacher go, I'd be it and 2) other districts will likely not be in a hurry to hire this year and I might have to just wait things out and that really stresses me out. I have faith that things will work out, though.
• James talked to some army recruiters this week and had thoughts of joining up active duty after he graduates. There are a lot of benefits to joining up active duty in a medical officer slot, but that also means we would be leaving Utah and headed to the middle of Texas or somewhere for three years. I'm not so sure what I think about that.
• I need to start a Master's Degree program and I think I finally found one through USU that I can do online and actually interests me. Thanks mom, for helping me to feel confident about these decisions. There are still some bugs to work out before I apply, but I have started the process.
• Willie's junior high b-ball team is a little off beat. Willie is improving every game and really starting to show some sweet skills. He was even excited to report that on Thursday's announcements at school, he was the "defensive player of the game." Way to go Willie! I don't have total faith in his coach, they've lost a few, and I worry that my dad will have a massive heart attack at a basketball game before Willie graduates from high school, but otherwise, it's been a fun season.
• I need to go get in the shower. Annie is bringing Elliott over today and I get to tend him all day!!! I love him! I am excited to be an aunt again in May!
